Summer is Here—the Season for Waxing!

Summertime is here and that means most of you will begin your waxing season. I went to one of our estheticians, Carla, for her top tips for best results. Of course, her first recommendation is to regularly get waxes. Yes, even throughout the winter! The more regular you get it done, the finer the hair grows back. When there’s a big break between sessions it can be like starting over. However, for most, it’s primarily during the warmer weather that clients wax regularly. We’re happy to help no matter how often you wax, so here’s some tips to help you have the smoothest skin at the pool, BBQ, and beach!!

  1. Grow out your hair for about 2-4 weeks. You want to have at least ¼” long hair before waxing. If the hair is too short, the esthetician won’t be able pull the hair, causing extra irritation.

  2. Exfoliate the day before your appointment. It helps to get a clean wax and prevent ingrown hairs.

  3. Take an ibuprofen right before you appointment to ease the swelling and pain.

  4. Don’t work out for at least 6 hours after a wax. Hit the gym in the morning before your appointment! That added friction can cause irritation.

  5. Give yourself at least 3 days until slipping into a swimsuit. It can sometimes take this long for swelling to go down, especially for women with super sensitive skin. Also, Swimming right away in pool can cause more irritation if the chemicals and salt water get in your pores. So don’t wait to get waxed at the resort or during your vacation. Plan ahead so you’ll be ready to hit the beach or pool straight away!

  6. After Care is very important!! The hair is gone, now let’s keep the skin smoothe!  Carla recommends witch hazel, or a topical hydrocortisone cream to soothe the skin after waxing. You can also use Aveda’s Botanical Kinetics liquid exfoliant for maximum comfort.

If you have any more questions about waxing feel free to give us a call, or ask Carla or Meghan the next time you’re in the salon!! Happy Summer, everyone!!!
